The 2024 Paris Olympics Games has unveiled its curtains with a never-before opening ceremony – 85 boats down the River Seine on the 26th of July. The pouring rain did not dampen the spirits of Team Singapore’s 29 athletes and officials, as they waved mini Singaporean flags with radiant smiles and jubilant cheers.
As the 2024 Paris Olympics Games takes the stage, 9th August is just around the corner too – let’s celebrate our local athlete heroes this National Day!
Singapore’s Sprint Queen
27 year old Singaporean sprinter, Shanti Pereira, has broken many records and made history for Singapore since her first breakthrough performance back at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games – Shanti clinched the Gold medal in the 200m race, the first for Singapore in 42 years in a SEA Games sprint event back in 2015. Since then, she has had her own series of setbacks, but Singapore’s Sprint Queen did not back down. When asked in an interview with Olympics.com about what the people should know about her (stories and profiles), Shanti replied “What I want people to know about me? I don’t know, man. I think I’ve been through a lot in my career but simply… I’m not done yet.”. (source: Olympic.com) We are definitely not finished witnessing her break through barriers and achieve even greater heights! Shanti had an amazing 2023 season last year, performing well in four major competitions: Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Asian Championships, World Championships and Asian Games.
As she qualifies for the latest 2024 Paris Olympics Games through world rankings, we are excited to see her shine and continue to make history!
